About This Option

Dining lighting is the one place in a home where fixture position matters more than fixture choice. The pendant or chandelier must centre on the table rather than the room, and hang 750mm to 900mm above the tabletop so it lights faces without blocking the sightline across the table. For longer tables we use a linear fixture or a cluster of two to three pendants spaced evenly, sized to roughly half to two-thirds of the table width so the proportion holds. Colour temperature stays warm at 2700K to 3000K because food and skin tones look wrong under cool white, and the circuit runs on a dimmer so the same table suits breakfast and a dinner with guests. Ambient cove or recessed light fills the rest of the room so the dining zone is not a bright island in a dark space. Where the table may move later, we plan a ceiling point or track that allows the fixture to be repositioned.
